Twins- Coming Soon!

Big sister announcement.

A couple of months ago my husband and I found out we were expecting another baby. It was exciting news, we already have a beautiful daughter who is  2 and ½ years old and we were excited to welcome another addition to our family.

During the the early stages of this pregnancy I started experiencing light headedness. I was still studying and was trying to finish up the semester with my studies.  I ended up completing the last part of the semester in bed due to the light headedness and fatigue.

There was a day that I was really struggling to stay upright. I was almost 7 weeks pregnant and I felt really fatigued and ended up spending most of the morning in bed just resting. During that afternoon, things escalated and I started getting cramping pains in my abdominal area. Unfortunately these were the type of pains that I had experienced before and it resulted in an early pregnancy loss.  Alarm bells were ringing and my husband acted quickly and called emergency services, I was hesitant but the pain wasn’t easing and my head was starting to drift off to the worst case scenario.

After a quick ride up to the hospital, I was seen to pretty quickly. My husband and daughter met me up there and my daughter enjoyed the experience of riding on the bed with me and watching the nurses do their thing. I was given fluids, blood work was taken, a heart monitor was done and I was monitored regularly until the Doctor had my results and was ready to give me a scan. The Doctor reported back that all was ok, but wanted to get a scan done to see if she could see anything out of the ordinary. She did warn us that even though I almost 7 weeks, that it was still possible that we may not see anything.

My husband and daughter sat there waiting patiently in the room, as the Doctor tried to locate what she was looking for. I watched the scanning screen and tried not to look at the Doctors face. Anxiously we waited, still expecting to hear news that we were dreading to hear. I could make out two small shapes on the screen but I really didn’t have a clue as to what the Doctor was looking for. The Doctor frowned and then said “everything’s ok, but….. I think I can see two babies here.”

All I can say is, it was a good thing I was laying down. I said “what do you mean two?” And she replied in her American accent “Girl your having twins!”

I looked at my husband, his face was pale, my daughter was sitting happily on his knee excited about the whole adventure and oblivious to what had just been discovered. This was the complete opposite to what we had been suspecting, it was wonderful news! We just needed a moment or ten to digest the information!

Just like that we went from expecting not 1 but 2 babies!

Twin life here we come!
